Why a move-out clean matters
Most deposit disputes in England are about cleaning. When you move out, your landlord or letting agent compares the property with the check-in inventory. If the oven, bathroom or carpets are dirtier than they were when you moved in, they can take money from your deposit to pay for cleaning. A normal clean keeps a home tidy. A move-out clean goes inside everything: inside the oven, inside the fridge and freezer, inside cupboards and drawers, behind appliances where they can be moved, skirting boards, door frames, light switches and window sills. The property is empty, so cleaners can reach places that are normally covered by furniture.
Before you book

How long does an end of tenancy clean take?
A 1-bed flat usually takes one cleaner 4 to 6 hours. A 3-bed house is often done by a team of two or three in one day. Heavy build-up in the oven or bathroom adds time.
Should the property be empty?
Yes, ideally. Cleaners work fastest when furniture you own and all your belongings are gone. Landlord furniture can stay.
